Spring is in full swing here in the Arizona Valley. Today it's supposed to get up to 94 degrees and creeping up to 100 before we know it. So now is the perfect time for sessions before the heat gets too blazing hot. I recently had a fantastic session with these two cuties. They were so fun, I could've photographed them for hours & hours :) I love the interaction these two had with one another, so loving. And little Grace was so excited to be photographed she didn't even want a break for drinks or snacks. I loved it! Anyway, here's a little look inside our session. :)
{Missing Mexico....}
I can't believe how much time has passed since my last blog post. Gosh, I'm sorry. I have so much to blog and so little time. But I'm honestly going to make it a priority since I appreciate you taking the time to come by and see my little space in this vast cyber world.
As you may remember, my family and I went on vacation to Mexico in March and we are all missing it already. The kids had a blast, we relaxed and everyone ate far too many chips & guacamole. Anyway, the things we saw and the experiences we had were ones I hope my kids never forget. My parents were there (we all go together every other year) and I'm so glad my children were able to experience this vacation with their grandparents too. I tried to photograph what I could without looking like a tourist with a big black box attached to my neck. These are some of the moments I was able to capture.
{Above} Native to Mexico this nice man kindly allowed me to photograph him. His look of worry and heartache haunts me.
{Above} Brielle, in her new handmade Mexican Dress that Grandpa bought for her.
{Below} Taking a break from exploring the markets.
{Above} A bridge colorfully painted by children who live in this small town. I loved the unique artwork each child dedicated to their space.
{Below} Tyler's hard work in bartering. He was so proud of his thoughtful spending. We were too.
{Below} Cobblestone Streets...I fell in love.
{Below} Funky archway.
{Below} A beautiful old church we visited. I loved the blue glass windows in this church.
{Below} A food truck drove passed us on this narrow alleyway. I couldn't resist photographing all the vibrant colors. Made me hungry too. :)
{Above} We ate lunch and had drinks at peaceful restaurant on the beach. Yummers.
{Below} And we played. Tyler bought this slingshot for his daddy with some of his left over money. Now they both have slingshots. Boys. :)
{Above} Tyler, quietly waiting for our food to come.
{Below} More refreshments.
{Below} No this is not beer. It's pineapple juice and Brielle drank every last drop - I think she liked it.
{Above} This man stopped at our table while we were eating lunch hoping to entertain the kids. He terrified them with his talking doll so we kindly tipped him so he could move on.
{Below} The peaceful quiet streets in Bucerius.
{Below} Gorgeous chandelier at our resort. I would love to have a miniature one in my house.
{Below} The maids would leave a different 'towel animal' on the kids beds each day. This was one of their favorites.
Swimming - both kids are fish! :) And we convinced Brielle to come out for a quick nourishment break here (rare, she won't leave the pool for anything). :) Tyler got brave with the waves. He wants to boogie board next time :)
{Designer Spotlight: Spring Collection-Kait Emerson Designs & Nuxiemade}
I'm back!! Back from Mexico that is :) It was a great vacation and the kids fell in love and want to move there. Not surprising - they're little fish and they couldn't build enough sand castles. They also had so much fun bartering in nearby villages and looking for seashells where ever they went. Now that I'm back I feel like I have a TON to catch-up on! So much to blog (lots in the queue right now). The first thing that I want to blog is the new Spring Collection by Kait Emerson Designs. She is talented beyond words and when I received the items to be photographed I instantly decided on a theme. The Carnival! The light blues, and pale pinks mixed with a punch of deeper colors screamed FUN and Childhood. So the kids really got into it. She included a cool boys shirt for Tyler to model - I love the colors {fun, yet definitely 'boy'}. And the cute green and pink headband seen in many of the images are made by my favorite hat maker Nuxiemade. She has a huge selection of colors to choose from on her site. Here are a few images from our session. Check out more items in Kait Emerson's Spring line at www.kaitemersondesigns.com
Couldn't resist going Grungy Vintage on this last one :)
{Before I go...}
I was hoping to post more about my time at WPPI but I'm headed to Puerto Vallarta tomorrow and have been running around trying to get things done before my trip. So I'll leave you with a picture of sweet Brielle an image that I thought needed a vintage, aged look. And Tyler, sitting for a series I've been working on. I love vintage photos. In fact after I get home from vacation, I'm heading off to my grandmother's house in the Berkeley hills. It was a house my grandfather built over 60 years ago. It's been quite a while since I've been there so I'm looking forward to visiting her and taking pictures of the 100+ stairs that lead up to her house. Anyway, I hate to make this so short but if I don't I may have to pull an all nighter to get everything done. Thanks for stopping by! I'll blog more when I return!!
{Designer Spotlight: Eliza Kate}
You know how much I love Eliza Kate. Here's part of her Spring line! Isn't it darling?! She always amazes me with her cute and fun designs and her stuff is so comfortable (that's coming from a 4 year old - really). Brielle wanted to sleep in the outfit shown at the bottom of this post since she already had it on, I carefully convinced her that PJ's would be best for sleeping lol. Of course Brielle had to wear her boots - she loves those boots. I'm trying to find some cute strapy sandals that she'll like and gravitate toward. ;-) But whatever makes her happy during a shoot lol.
So I'm getting ready to leave to go out of town for 2 weeks. One week to WPPI in Vegas {woo hoo!} and then I return home for 2 days and head off to Puerto Vallarta Mexico with my family and my parents for a week. So I'm trying to get a crazy amount of things done. I have more Designer Spotlights in the queue waiting to be posted so I'll be getting to those in between my trips hopefully. Then bookings are beginning for Spring are getting busy - and I am adding some fun new products as well. Yay!! Thanks for stopping by!
{Faith Works 4 U: Retro/Vintage Designer Spotlight}
Wanna know why I love this designer so much? She's got the perfect combination of Retro-Vintage mixed with today in each dress she makes. I love her style and can't say enough about it! Check out her amazing work at FaithWorks4U . I'm especially in love with her 1960's line...I drool every time I visit her site. Amazing talent I tell ya.
On a side note: Happy Valentine's Day!! The last two photos were added in honor of the fun holiday! I made over 100 of these tasty lil treats for Tyler and Brielle's classmates and neighborhood friends. :) Their school parties brought me back to when I was young. Such fun times.
{Monster Truck Jam, Phoenix 2010}
I never thought I'd blog about Monster Trucks, but here I am :) My husband works for Universal Technical Institute, a sponsor at the Monster Jam. This was my first experience up close and personal with Monster Jam and the humungo trucks that compete - I was in awe. I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I did. Before the show we went to the Pit Party and saw the trucks and drivers up close - it was crazy how big these trucks are and how little we were next to them. The kids loved it and when we were told we could write on the cars that were going to be demolished, the kids were in heaven. {the kids in action above}. I even got into it...it was freeing to be able to do something like this LOL. I've banned sharpies from my house for fear the kids will think it's a Crayola marker and ruin our table, furniture and well, everything. So the kids looked at me before writing on these cars and hesitantly asked 'Really? We can draw, we write on these cars?' I loved seeing their excitement. :) After the Pit Party the show was ready to begin so we headed up to UTI's Party Suite! Again, we were in awe - food, souvenirs, drinks and a great view of the trucks below. It was a blast!!!
(below) I got to see the 'pretty' mechanical parts of these trucks - they were really colorful and complex.
UTI's Party Suite below :)
The first competitor in the Freestyle Competition was a woman driver. She and her truck 'Outlaw' were tough! She was a driver with no fear! At the end of her portion of the competition her wheel broke off. Her gutsy driving put her in high ranking but in the end she ended up tying for second place.

{Designer Spotlight: ZozoBugBaby & NuxieMade}
Doesn't this dress make you long for Spring?! In this newest design by Julie of 'Zozobug Baby' and 'ZoGirl!' the soft pinks, and sunny yellow go so perfectly for this style of dress. The apron portion of this fabric is imported from Hollond so the this "Cotton-Candy Dress" is a limited edition piece. I love the flirty style with the mini-ruffle and the matching rosette at the top, coupled with the funky/fun apron front and the the halter back. I was so giddy when I saw this dress and so was Brielle - she wanted to go on a photo session 'RIGHT NOW'. So funny :) And that cute little matching headband (which Brielle insist on wearing every time we get into the car...did I mention that she's a little stubborn?) is the hand-made design of Melissa of Nuxiemade. Remember the knit hats I use all the time? This is the same maker and I'm thrilled to see these new accessories!! She's brilliant!
Side Note: I just converted from PC to Mac (woo hoo!!) so bare with me on any bumps that may happen during this conversion. I have yet to calibrate my monitor so you may be looking at pictures that are Purple - lol. Hope not. So even though I'm in sRGB colorspace I'm seeing that some of the images posted on these designers sites look like they are in Adobe RGB (but they aren't) weird hu? Anyway this change is challenging at times - it's fun, it's scary, it's new and I'm trying my hardest to dive in head first. I also got myself a handy dandy little tablet to edit with so that too is 'change' and adds the many emotions mentioned ;-) Change is good though right? Thanks for stopping by!!
{Happy New Year! 2010 has begun!}
It's a new year - already!! A new decade! Wow, it's amazing how much life can change in a year and in a decade. 10 years ago I was a Corporate Financial Statement Auditor with Deloitte & Touche LLC, and was breathing a sigh of relief that all my clients computer systems didn't crash in the Y2K conversion (a major stresser/responsibility for my company at that time). I wasn't married, but was dating my now husband. I was living in an apartment in West Seattle, with a beautiful view of Fauntleroy Fairy and walking distance to parks, food, and video stores (yeah, video stores that are now going extinct. Crazy hu?). I didn't have a GPS, I didn't even know what one was at the time. iPhones were not a part of our language or a necessity to our lives and I didn't even know what blogging was. Isn't that crazy?! Now life is much different... I text my friends who live in other states just to let them know I'm thinking of them, I text my husband at work to see what he wants for dinner, I have two kids who hog my iPhone to play games, secretly call grandparents and giggle as they are doing it (haven't called to China yet, thankfully - lol), we've lived in 3 different states in the past 10 years. Life just keeps changing, evolving and moving on... so quickly.
So now that Christmas has ended and a new year has begun I'm still not ready to take down my Christmas tree - but today is the day. Time to clean the house and welcome the New Year with a clean house and a clear mind. Happy New Year everyone!!
I've attached our family Christmas Card from this year along with some fun out-takes from our photo session. I was using a tripod so we had to make our session super quick (the kids only last about 15 minutes before they are done)
{A New Little Hero Entered Heaven's Gates}
I want to share with you a story of a little hero named Aldo Rubio. He was a happy, loving, and honest little seven year old. On Thursday night, he was playing with three of his friends across the street from his house. They found a hole in the chain-linked fence leading to the canal and being curious little boys, they decided to explore. One of the boys (11 years old) fell into the canal. With bravery and selflessness, Aldo jumped in the deep canal to help his friend to safety and in doing so, Aldo was pulled further into the cold waters. There's nothing to grab onto in the swift deep waters of the canal, so sadly, Aldo was swept away leaving his friends powerless and running for help. A man driving by saw that one of the boys running was soaking wet & frantic and asked what happened and then immediately called 911 for help. Rescuers, firefighters, and helicopter teams searched for Aldo in the cold murky waters and sadly discovered his lifeless body 12 hours later, 60 yards from where the boys fell in. My heart breaks today. He was in my son's class at school and I had the joy of seeing him each week when I volunteered in his classroom. My interactions with him were always sweet and warm, he always made me laugh or smile over his gentle and sincere words. I enjoyed the time I got to spend with him - helping him with his reading words, exploring books to add to his 'reading book bag', and playfully greeting him in the mornings. He was always happy and that was infectious to everyone around him.
Tyler doesn't understand the impact of what has happened to his friend yet. We were out of town when I spoke to the School Nurse and received the devastating news. Security, police and trauma counselors are at his school to help the children and teachers with their grief. Tyler doesn't want to talk about it and still thinks that Aldo will be at school on Monday and they'll play. He's in denial and I feel helpless. Monday will be difficult when he sees Aldo's empty place at the table in their classroom. I know heaven needed Aldo and he's in the loving arms of God, but he is missed so much here. He's a young hero, so courageous and altruistic. He's watching over his family, friends and classmates each day and that brings us comfort. He will live in our hearts and will never be forgotten.
Aldo's family needs our prayers right now. I can't imagine how they feel with what they are going through. An account to pay for Aldo's funeral has been established at Bank of America. Anyone wishing to donate should ask for the Positive Impact Inc. account. under Aldo Rubio at any Bank of America Branch. This time of year it especially hard to deal with such loss, so any amount will be appreciated. Thank you.
